There's a saying in the wine business: "Blends are easy to drink but hard to sell." We've been trained to think that single varietals listed on a label mean that a wine is somehow better, but in the old days, blends were just a part of traditional winemaking. Ferrando is from Piedmont's tiny 40-acre Canavese region (45 minutes north of Turin), known for white Erbaluce and its famed Nebbiolo. This youthful steel-vinified Rosso is mostly Nebbiolo with about 30% Barbera and a touch of local Neretta, and it's perfect for drinking now. Medium-bodied with notes of wild brambleberries, dark spices, earth, and mild tannins. For those seeking an alternative to Barolo or Barbaresco, we also carry Ferrando's Carema Nebbiolo.
