Italy produces a surprisingly large amount of sparkling wine with a combination of Moscato, Prosecco, Lambrusco, and other Spumante/Frizzante. Most of it is meant for daily consumption and is priced between $10 and $20, but an obscure Lombardian wine rivals Champagne in quality and price. Located within the province of Brescia, Franciacorta DOCG is an area of 5,400 acres planted with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and a bit of Pinot Blanc. Wines must be made according to 'Metodo Classico' with the second fermentation in the bottle. The only drawback to Franciacorta is that so few people know about it. Maybe Alessandra Divella, a very young winemaker, can introduce this region to a few more drinkers. That's about all she can do with a mere 5 acres of organic vineyards.
The Clo CLo Zero Dosage is no sulfite Pinot Noir vinified into a serious, deep-colored, savory wine with herbs, rose hip, minerals, oxidative natural fruit, and plenty of depth and umami. Yes, this is a food wine. Try it game, al forno dishes, stews, and roast meat.
