Cabernet Franc made its way from Bordeaux to the central Loire Valley in the 17th century, where it achieved its apex in Chinon, Bourgueil, Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, and Saumur-Champigny. As a parent of Cabernet Sauvignon, you can taste the unique fruit profile Franc passed on to its progeny. On its own, Cab Franc retains the dry, earthy, profound characteristics found in Chaintres "Les Sables." This fuller-bodied wine is aged in steel and displays deeply colored fruit, pepper, fine tannins, earth notes, cigar tobacco, cassis, and nightshade vegetables. Pair with sausages, red meat, tomato and eggplant dishes.
