Scar of the Sea winery gets its name from the influence of the Pacific ocean, located 10 minutes away by car. Pinot Noir for Vino de Los Ranchos comes from Rancho Ontiveros and Rancho Vinedo vineyards in Santa Maria, about 30 miles down the coast from San Luis Obispo. The fruit is fermented with native yeasts, aged in French oak for seven months, and bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur. Medium-bodied with notes of ripe cherry, cranberry compote, earth notes, tea, and elegant structure. It is the perfect example of dry, varietally correct Cali Pinot that drinks well with just about anything.
