In 1904, La Rioja Alta assimilated Bodegas Ardanza (founded in 1890) and gained some of the best vineyards used in Viña Ardanza to this day. The 2016 Reserva is a blend of separately vinified/aged Tempranillo (80%) from Rioja Alta and Garnacha from Rioja Oriental, each varietal barrel-aged 36 and 30 months, respectively. This vintage just hit the shelves, and it's ready to drink after spending eight years in cellars and bottles. The concentrated red fruit really pops with a fresh, silky mouthfeel and notes of pepper and oak. Drink with steak, paella, roasts, and stew.
