There's nothing more challenging than finding a varietally correct mid-priced California Pinot Noir. Many are too fruity, oaky, or atypical, but David Gordon, wine director at Manhattan's Tribeca Grill, works with only the best growers in California to craft wine named after his wife. From a high-end anonymous source on the Central Coast, Jeanne Marie is 100% Monterey fruit, fermented in tank and oak, and aged eight months in neutral oak for a structured medium-bodied deep-colored Pinot with notes of raspberry, cherry, light spice, and earth. Pair with chicken, grilled tuna and salmon, roast pork, or Asian fare.
