Xarel-lo is a Catalonian grape most commonly used to make sparkling Cava in Penedes. Admired for its aromatic qualities, it is often blended, but winemaker Amôs Bañeres and grape-grower Alex Ruiz decided to do something different with their Xarel-lo. Lluerna is a nod to crisp and nervy Fino Sherry crossed with the lushly oxidative wine of Jura. Els Vinyerons ferments fresh Xarel-lo in steel and then rounds it out with 10% older barrel-aged Xarel-lo for a profile of stone fruit, wet ocean rocks, and roasted nuts. Pair with roast pork, grilled fish, and stewed chicken with mushrooms. No added sulfites.
