Donn and Molly Chappellet settled on Napa's rocky Pritchard Hill in 1967, and the winery is still going strong today under the leadership of their children. In recent years, Chappellet constructed new facilities with modernized equipment, which winemaker Philip Corallo-Titus has been using to improve quality at the historic estate. Chappellet is back on top, putting out well-made Napa wines produced from 102 acres of organic vines. 2021 was a drought year, so this Mountain Cuvée is a concentrated blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 12% Malbec, 15% Petit Verdot, and 5% Cabernet Franc, and it's drinking well now. Flavors of red currants, boysenberry, mocha, cassis, spice, thyme, and toasted wood.
