Colli Senesi (hills of Siena) surround the historic city of Siena and border prime vineyards of Chianti Classico, Montalcino, and Montepulciano. It's a destination for affordable wine, but since Fattoria di Fèlsina purchased Farnetella Castle in 1981, this Chianti is truly on another level for under $20. Old vineyards in the commune of Sinalunga near Montepulciano yield superior Sangiovese with just a touch of Merlot aged 12 months in medium-sized French oak casks for depth, silkiness, and structure. Fuller medium-bodied with cherries, earth, sandalwood, and plum. A natural pairing with pasta, meats, antipasti, ragu, and pizza.
