While most Bordeaux winemakers strive for a certain level of uniformity and "bigness" to their wines, a handful of producers take a unique approach. Christophe Peuyo, the 5th generation winemaker at Vignobles Pueyo, uses the family's 40 acres (15 in the heart of Saint-Emilion) to make age-worthy classics like Château Belregard-Figeac, but he also crafts Tellus Vinea, which is youthful, lively, and unoaked. Since converting to organic viticulture, Christophe has switched out new barriques for large old barrels, concrete vats, steel tanks, and even clay jars. Tellus is a blend of 90/10 Merlot/Cab Franc from Lalande de Pomerol vinified in steel and concrete, so the dark, plummy fruit remains fresh and bright. Great acidity and soft tannins make this the perfect summer Bordeaux with a slight chill.
