Matias Michelini has a soft touch when it comes to Bonarda aka Charbono, which he grows in the Uco Valley in Tupungato, Mendoza. Some have attempted to make this grape into a thick and heavy wine as an appeal to Malbec drinkers, but Pura achieves its potential when harvested with multiple passes for particular ripeness, put through carbonic maceration, and aged in neutral containers. Medium-bodied, juicy, and fruity with blueberry, cherry, raspberry, firm tannins, and bright acidity. Unfiltered, so be prepared for some sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Pair Bonarda as you would a Beaujolais. Drink with burgers, pizza, sausages, charcuterie, Tex-Mex, and grilled fish.
