Stéphane Coquilette's mentor was an esteemed winemaker, his father Christian Coquillette of Champagne Saint-Chamant, whose dense, well-aged vintage wines enjoyed cult status. At 25, Stéphane took his winemaking in a different direction than other houses. Not only does he farm organically, but he even makes a few vineyard-specific cuvees. 1er Cru Brut Carte d’Or is single-vintage 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay with no reserve wines added. Lees aging is short, so the wine is fresh and bright with notes of lemon curd, lavender, donut peaches, and minerals.
