We should never discount the quality of sparkling wines from other European countries. There has always been an exchange of information, varietals, and skills among Champagne producers and their winemaking counterparts, especially when the phylloxera pest spread across France. Sidonio de Sousa is an old family estate in Portugal's Bairrada zone, and they have been making excellent under-the-radar wines for a long time. This sparkler is a blend of Bical, Maria Gomes, and Arinto made in the traditional method. It's dry bubbly with notes of citrus, green apples, pears, and herbs that pairs well with fish, appetizers, salads, or on its own before brunch.
