In the late 1990s, Nick and Andy Peay and Nick's wife, Vanessa Wong, were looking for an undiscovered wine-making spot. They finally settled in a remote part of the newer AVA known as Sonoma Coast, an hour north of San Francisco near Sea Ranch and Annapolis. Almost all their wine is produced with fruit grown on the 53-acre hilltop vineyard overlooking the cool and foggy Pacific Ocean four miles away.
As the second label, Cep Pinot Noir is no different but costs much less than Peay for a mid-week treat. Cep is a Burgundy-style cold-climate Pinot made from declassified barrels of low-yield/intervention Peay wine. It is dry yet generous with strawberry, raspberry, and cherry notes on a structured palate with a finish of tea and earth. We also carry Cep Syrah and Peay Chardonnay.
