Monte Rio is not an ordinary California Zinfandel. If you're looking for that jammy-dense experience, you're in for a massive disappointment. Patrick Cappiello's wines are authentic expressions of heritage California varietals in their purest organic forms. Harvesting from 100-year vines planted in Lodi's Shegril vineyard, his fruit is 100% whole cluster carbon macerated, steel fermented with natural yeasts, and aged for nearly a year in old barrels, yielding a medium-bodied Zin with just 13% alcohol and no added sulfur. The final product is nervy, alive, and springing with sour cherry, currants, blackberries, stewed fruit, green notes, and spice box. Chill and serve with simple fare like a juicy burger with all the fixings, chicken fried steak, burritos, and BBQ. Only 300 cases made.
