Sara Perez uses restraint when it comes to her Menut wines. She learned well from her father and owner of Mas Martinet, Josep Lluís Pérez. Instead of new wood, she vinifies and ages wine as they did before the oak craze, i.e., in cement tanks, old wooden vats, and old barrels. Free from all the new wood, you can get a better sense of hearty old vines that must survive in poor soils cut up by jagged fields of slate. La Tribu del Millonari is a biodynamic blend of 40% Grenache, 20% Carignan, 30% Syrah, and 10% Merlot, fermented with native yeast in concrete and aged in old wood. It shows dark brambleberries, smoke, a hint of barnyard, and spice. The finish is high in acid and minerals, perfectly complementing the black fruit and earthiness. La Tribu del Millonari is a beautiful, elegant, and skilled expression of Priorat that pairs with braises, roasts, and spicy Mediterranean vegetarian dishes.
