Medium-bodied with notes of white peach, citrus, white flowers, and tropical fruit; the bright finish shows a touch of residual sugar. Gertie & Max perfectly complements Emmanthaler and Gruyere cheeses, fondue, raclette, hors d'oeuvres, charcuterie, German fare, and spicy Asian food.
Known as Gutedel (goot-EH-del) in Germany, Fendant in Switzerland, and Chasselas in France, this grape is a specialty in the Baden region of southwest Germany, specifically Markgräflerland on the borders with Alsace, France, and northern Switzerland, the ancestral homeland of both Gutedel and fondue. The grape has migrated as far as New Zealand, Turkey, and Chile, but there's nothing like the local product grown at the edge of the Black Forest.
