After tasting the latest vintage of Uccelliera, we knew we had to have it. A former employee at the renowned Ciacci Piccolomini estate, Andrea Cortonesi, purchased Uccelliera from Ciacci in 1986 and made his first vintage of 500 bottles five years later. Uccelliera has been a reliable producer ever since while remaining reasonably priced. Built on 100% Sangiovese from Castelnuovo dell’Abate, the 2019 Brunello is dense, tooth-staining, and loaded with cherry preserves, black walnut, plum butter, and tannins from 24 months in French and Slavonian oak. We see this wine becoming more accessible over the next five years, but Uccelliera can rest in the cellar for decades.
