Sometimes, you want a great wine without all the rigmarole. There's no need to get bogged down and pigeonholed with particular grapes and regions, so take our word that this blend of steel-vinified Sauvignon Blanc (70% ) and Sauvignon Gris is precisely what you want. Corine Mauro makes wine on 30 certified organic hectares split between Bordeaux AOC and its hilly neighbor of Côtes de Duras. With fruit from the latter, À l'abri du Monde ("Shelter from the World") is a native-yeast, lees-aged, minerally sauvignon with a rich texture and bright acids. It's nothing like the usual New Zealand or Loire wine, but it goes with all the same foods. It is a staff favorite.
