The Jura region between Burgundy and the Swiss border might be the last frontier for Francophiles. The grapes, styles, and geography remain somewhat obscure, but Desire Petit is easy to love. Ploussard (aka Poulsard) typically yields lightly-colored aromatic red wines, running the gamut from nearly white to pink. La Bidode is the opposite. Although the color is clear garnet, the flavor is concentrated in the medium-bodied palate with dried berries, blackcurrants, blackberries, and potpourri structured by bright acidity and fine tannins. Pair with risotto, pheasant, pork roast, and charcuterie. If you like Cru Beaujolais, you should try this red from the subregion of Arbois Pupillin.
