The De Forville family came to the village of Barbersco from Belgium almost two centuries ago, and after five generations, it looks like they're staying. Once sold in bulk to local eateries, DeForville wines were too good to remain a local secret; the US only receives 500 cases of this Dolcetto d'Alba, harvested from three separate parcels between Barbaresco and Neive. Fruit from 30-year vines is steel-fermented and then aged in large oak for six months before release. Dolcetto's name (the "little sweet one") might come from its reputation for having lower acidity, but DeForville is anything but that. It's a bright, crisp, chillable red with notes of cherry, red currants, and red licorice. Pair with grilled chicken and sausages, pasta with red sauce, and cheesy casseroles.
