The two most widely planted red grapes in Italy are Montepliucinao and Sangiovese, so it's no wonder they end up together. The Marche region on the Adriatic coast is home to two such blends made in the DOCs of Rosso Conero and Rosso Piceno. De Angelis makes their Rosso Piceno Superiore with Montepulciano (70%) and Sangiovese aged in large barrels for more than a year to gain complexity, structure, deep purple plums, black cherry, and baking spice over fine tannins. Pair with pasta, pizza, minestrone, mushroom dishes, and grilled sausage.
