Forget everything you think you know about Beaujolais. This wine is big and age-worthy for decades, not something usually associated with floral-luscious Fleurie. Clos de la Roilette is a 22-acre lieu-dit in the village of Fleurie, which has been in the Coudert family since 1967. Cuvée Tardive refers to the original vineyards encountered by Fernand Coudert, and you can still enjoy the flavors from 80+ year vines planted in clay and manganese soils. The wine ferments with whole clusters and native yeast; maceration lasts almost three weeks, and aging is done in large old foudres for 9 months. We recommend decanting for 2-3 hours as flavors of black fruit, lavender, plum brandy, olives, earth, and cocoa continue to develop. Perfect with cassoulet, casseroles, and braises.
