Located just a few dozen miles north of Marseille on the western side of Provence are the extensive vineyards of Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence. Château Pigoudet has been here since 1820 and under the Rabe family's ownership since 1990, with Vigneron Ivan Khougazian and Viticulturist Daniel Laugier making some excellent wine in the commune of Rians. This year's Classic is the usual blend of sustainable Grenache (more than 60%) with smatterings of Syrah, Cinsault, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The result is pale in color but bright in flavor, with notes of white blossoms, pink grapefruit, and red berries. Zingy, fresh, crisp, and fruity with just the right amount of refreshing tartness on the finish. Perfect with any summer fare.
