The island of Sardinia is the only place in Italy where Carignan & Grenache are the primary red varietals. Cannonau is the local name for Grenache, which probably arrived during four centuries of Spanish rule, but Cannonau has a personality all its own because of Sardegna's unique volcanic/granite terroir. Cardedu's (car-DAY-doo) grows chemical-free, practicing-organic Grenache vinified with native yeast in concrete, allowing Caladu's smoky, rustic, herbaceous, minerally palate to shine through. Hints of licorice & berry compote complement grilled foods. Give it a light chill.
