Tequila is just the tip of the iceberg of Mexican agave-based liquors. Tequila, Bacanora, and Raicilla are all forms of Mezcal, further defined by geography, production methods, and types of agave used. Produced in the small Oaxacan village of San Baltazar Guelavila, this edition of Nuestra Soledad is from high-elevation Espadin agave cooked in an earthen oven, milled with a stone wheel, fermented in wooden vats, and twice-distilled in a copper pot still. Mezcal is the most terroir-expressive spirit in the world as one gets a sense of the mountain terrain along with Asian spice, minerals, grilled tropical fruit, and smoky wood. 94 proof.
