Grappa is a type of brandy made from grape pomace (skins, juice, pips, and stems), all the stuff leftover from winemaking. Using regional varietals, one finds similar brandies such as Marc in France, Orujo in Spain, and Tresterbrand in Germany. Nannoni is made from Tuscan Brunello di Montalcino pomace and aged three years in Brunello barrels for color and flavor resembling Cognac or Highland Scotch with notes of fig, prunes, hazelnut, walnut, tobacco, and a touch of flor. The finish is complex, delicate, and incredibly smooth. 80 proof.
