2009 Porto port

Sadly, our Portuguese wine sellers tell us that Port wine is becoming less popular each year. Still, there was a reason English merchants traveling to the Douro Valley more than 300 years ago were so enamored by the sweet red wine with an alcoholic punch. Port's popularity eventually spread worldwide as boatloads of the durable wine were shipped by English, Dutch, and German companies to sugar-loving drinkers as recently as the 2000s. So, maybe the public needs to be reminded of Port's deliciousness. We at Wild Vine do everything possible to keep this noble, historic fortified wine in the forefront. 

There are styles for every occasion, from white, rose, and Ruby to aged Tawny, Crusted, Late-Bottled Vintage, Colheita, and Vintage Port, the most iconic style of all. Because Vintage Ports can age for many decades, they are a great way to mark birthdays and anniversaries. Vintage wines and aged Tawnies can be expensive, but Ruby and young Tawny Port cost as little as $20. Like any other category, there are big producers and smaller family businesses. Look for some of our favorites, like Quinta do Infantado and Niepoort, and pair them with cheese, savory dishes, and desserts, or drink them alone.
