The fact that you can get one of the most obscure and delicious white wines for under $40 is unbelievable. Grown in Italy's northwestern region of Valle d'Aosta (bordering Switzerland & France), Prié is hand-picked from pre-phylloxera rootstock on Europe's highest vineyard sites near the summit of Mont Blanc. Ermese Pavese makes about 1000 cases annually of this expressive mineral-laden, high-acid, herb-driven wine resplendent with alpine thyme, rosemary, and tarragon. The zippy profile filled with preserved lemons goes well with stewed rabbit, river fish, mountain cheeses and charcuterie, and gnocchi or cheese spaetzle.
