Azienda Icardi started growing fruit in southern Piedmont, just outside Castiglione Tinella (about 10 miles south of Asti) in 1920. By the 1960s, Pierino and his wife decided to vinify their grapes rather than sell them, and today, their children continue building on tradition with organic farming to preserve local terroir for another 100 years. Nebbiolo is still the primary varietal, but the Icardis farm other local classics on 75 hectares of vineyards across the Langhe and Monferrato. Named after a French term for a dancing venue, Tabaren is a fresh, gulpable, steel-vinified Barbera d'Asti with notes of cherry and blueberry, smooth, structured tannins, and great acidity. Perfect for any Italian buffet.
