Christian Moueix attended UC Davis in the 1960s before returning home to manage Chateaux Petrus, La Fleur-Petrus, and Trotanoy in Pomerol. Still, California beckoned him to make wine on the old Napanook vineyards (planted 1838) in Napa's Yountville terroir at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains. This 2011 blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, and 5% Cabernet Franc is just ready to drink now and will last through 2045. It is on the elegant side of most Napa Cabs, with plenty of tobacco, currants, inky berries, iron, graphite, herbs, candied orange peel, potpourri, coffee, and black licorice. Drink now through 2040.
