Since 2007, Benjamin Taillandier has slowly added to his acreage in Caunes-Minervois, and now he has over 22 acres. Minervois sometimes gets lumped in with Rhone, but the region is tucked between the Montagne Noire and the Pyrenees in the western part of Occitania, just a few hours away from Spain. And Laguzelle is slightly different from the usual southern French blend, with a Cinsault-dominant cuvee and touches of Carignan and direct-press Syrah vinified in steel. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, Laguzelle shows a ruby color with notes of currants, cranberry, garrique, and a touch of funk on a dry, zippy, lighter-medium-bodied frame. We recommend serving this cool with charcuterie, pâté, rillettes, grilled meat, cevapi, and Pljeskavica. 12%abv.
