Aside from tradition, terroir, and style, Cognac has no propriety magic or method for making brandy. It can be distilled wherever wine exists, including California, Australia, Cyprus, Greece, Germany, and Spain. Crafted by the Sherry giant Williams & Humbert (think Dry Sack), Gran Duque is a solera-style brandy made with local varietals aged for 12 years in Sherry casks. You will notice the deep color before tasting all the velvety notes of Sherry-soaked oak, prune pastry, vanilla, caramel, chocolate, and burnt orange on a full-bodied, complex, warm palate.
