Sambuca is in the same family of anise liquors as Ouzo (Greece), Arak (The Levant), Raki (Turkey), and Anisette (France). Sambuca Secolare is made by Fratelli Caffo in Calabria, the toe of Italy, using real aniseed and Calabrian elderflowers. Natural ingredients yield a sweet 84-proof liqueur bursting with flavors of star anise, fennel, licorice, fragrant elderflower, and a touch of coconut. Sip neat after dinner or with "flies" (con la mosca). Three espresso coffee beans represent health, happiness, and prosperity.
