This maritime distillery has been making Scotch on the Àrd Beag (small headland) for the last two hundred years using heavily peated malted barley from Port Ellen and water from Loch Uigeadail (pronounced ooh-ga-dal, Gaelic for "a Dark and Mysterious Place"). Ardbeg operates two pot stills that yield nearly a dozen bottlings. Uigeadail is 108.4 proof Islay Single Malt matured in bourbon and sherry casks for a deep gold color and aromas of campfire, nuts, pine, cedar, leather, and plum pudding. The palate shows exotic spices, smoked meat, and treacle. Finishes with cigar notes, fruit, and mocha.
