Due to its high alcohol and concentration of Wormwood, Absinthe gained a bad reputation in the 19th century. Used and abused by artists, socialites, and regular folk, it was banned in many countries by the early 20th century. In 2007, the US government lifted the ban set in place since 1912, allowing the possibility of an Absinthe revival as long as the type of Wormwood is regulated.
