Vodka can be made from virtually anything: soy, sorghum, corn, rice, sugar beets, grapes, grains, or agricultural surplus. Baczewski's old Polish recipe relies on potatoes for this brand dating back to 1782. Today, J.A. Baczewski (Bah-she-ski) is owned and operated by the Austrian branch of the company Altvater Gessler, which produces their triple-distilled gluten-free vodka in Vienna. Monopolowa has a nice creamy mouthful for sipping neat, and its citrus and tropical fruit flavors blend seamlessly in cocktails. 80 proof.
