Closerie du Pelan is a story about a cellar rather than a vineyard. It's also a tale you would never learn about in a world of blue-chip Bordeaux. Forty years ago, a painter by the name of Régis Moro purchased the estate Vieux Château Champs de Mars at the eastern extreme of Bordeaux, straddling Côtes de Francs and Côtes de Castillon. He made some good wine, but the property never took off and fell into disrepair. In 2022, the Amoreau family of Le Puy stepped in and purchased all the vineyards and a fantastic cellar with many perfectly preserved older vintages that have been aging gracefully for years. Renamed Closerie de Pelan, this 103-acre estate's inaugural vintage will be 2022, but in the meantime, we can enjoy some rare older vintages.
