Who says German isn't fun and easy? Made by "winzerin" (female winemaker), Birgit (beer-geet) Wiederstein (Veeder-sht-ine) in Lower Austria, this company is an all-woman family affair with Grete and Martina heading up the distillation side of the business. Their fruit has been certified organic for many years, and the winery is working toward Biodynamic certification. Formerly known as Rosey, Rozae is a blend of Pinot Noir, Merlot, Zweigelt, and Blaufränkisch -- we're just not sure which ones and in what proportions due to conflicting specs. However, knowing the exact varietals in this wine won't explain the unique profile of orange bitters, potpourri, rose buds, pink grapefruit peels, apple skins, and pomander ball. Serve this fuller-bodied rosé lightly chilled with fried food, wurst, and meaty fish like swordfish with compound butter.
