A bit more common in Germany than here, Blanc de Noir is a unique take on Pinot Noir. Hammelmannn makes his wine in a corner of Pfalz, where the distinct soil is suited for the region's most important crops, Grumbeer und Zwiebel (potato and onion), however Lukas has carved out a little niche for himself just a short distance from prime vineyards in Neustadt-an-der Weinstraße, Deidesheim, and Bad Dürkheim. Caesslin is 100% Pinot Noir from limestone-rich vineyards, imparting a slightly rosy hue into this dry, unfiltered white wine at 11% ABV. The nose and palate indicate natural winemaking with textured yellow fruit, under-ripe wild strawberry, and stewed apple. We like this with salted fish, Alsatian Onion Pie, roasted cod, and potato gratin.
