Domaine Jean-Louis Chave is most famous for superb Syrah-based Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, and Saint-Joseph -- all of which fetch lofty prices. Mon Coeur Côtes du Rhône is moderately priced and produced under the banner of "J.L. Chave Selection," meaning the 50/50 old-oak-vinified blend of Syrah/Grenache is generally sourced fruit. Still, we suspect there's a measure of declassified Syrah added. If you're hankering for a more elegant version of Shiraz, this is it! Juicy, boozy (15% abv), and lush with blackberry syrup, kirsch, pepper, and violets with a hint of wood on the finish.
