La Pinede comes from one of the more enigmatic corners of France, French Catalonia, along the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees. If you're a Tour de France cyclist, Domaine La Tour Vieille in Collioure is a short bike ride through the mountains into Spanish Catalonia. While the Pyrénées-Orientales is most famous for sweet Banyuls, Rivesaltes, and Maury, there are also distinctive red wines like this full-bodied Grenache Noir with a little Mourvedre and Carignan. To harness this wine's energy, the vinification is temperature-controlled and tank-aged. It's 14. 5% ABV yet remains well balanced with dark stewed fruit, lavender, spice, quince paste, and loads of acidity. We love this for any winter fare or char-grilled meats. Aeration is recommended.
